The Margaret Wilcox School of Speech and Drama was established in 1972 by Margaret and is based at Plumley Village Hall. Sam Marsden has been the school principal since 2014. Our classes aim to nurture confidence, self-esteem and to celebrate individual personalities.
After being a student herself from a very young age, Sam began assisting Margaret with classes when she was 12 years old, whilst working through her qualifications in Drama including her Associate Diploma in Speech and Drama with the London College of Music and eventually her BA(Hons) degree in Drama with English Literature.
Sam Marsden has been the School Principal since Margaret stepped down in 2014.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Sam wanted to keep some normality for her students, so set up weekly classes on Zoom. After developing games and activities for online Drama learning, Sam quickly discovered this as a way for students from all over the world to access MWSD classes. Thus, the school has become The Margaret Wilcox International School of Speech and Drama.
Sam also runs after-school Drama Clubs in local Primary Schools. Sam has always been passionate about teaching drama and celebrating individual personalities by encouraging her students to express themselves. Sam enables students to be creative, enhancing emotional literacy, developing interpersonal skills, social awareness and confidence.
Since 2019, we have been offering classes and LAMDA exam tuition on Zoom and have welcomed students from all over the world including Armenia, China, Czech Republic, Dubai, France, Germany, Ireland, Nigeria, Russia, Thailand, UK and USA and have therefore changed the name of our school to include our international students.
